Radeon RX 6600 Vs. RX 6600 XT: Best AMD Budget Card To Buy
The Radeon RX6600 XT and RX6600 XT are two of AMD‘s most inexpensive PC gaming graphics cards. But which one is worth it? Although high-end graphics cards can be fun, most people don’t buy them. Gaming mainly depends on low- and mid-range cards to power their machines. Although they may not have the highest graphics or frame rates, budget GPUs improve every year.
AMD understands the importance of these GPUs and offers affordable alternatives to Nvidia. AMD launched the Radeon RX6600 XT in July 2021. AMD was hailing the Radeon RX 6600 XT as the year’s cheapest GPU launch. AMD launched the RX 6600 in October, a few months later. Both cards are attractive options for budget-minded gamers. But which one is the best overall? Here are the facts.

The RX6600 XT and RX6600 XT have almost identical names. They are very similar graphics cards. Each card is powered by the Navi 23 chipset with some tweaks. Both cards have the same 32MB infinity cache and 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Both cards should run most games at 1080p, with high graphics enabled (and max graphics in some instances).
Why the RX 6600XT is The Best GPU to Buy
The RX 6600XT is more expensive, but there are clear benefits. Although the Navi 23 chip is the same on both cards, the RX6600 XT has 32 compute units compared to the RX6600’s 28. It also has faster clock speeds across all boards, with the RX6600 XT giving out a 2359MHz frequency for gaming and a boost frequency of up to 2589MHz. The RX 6600 clocks at 2044MHz and 2491MHz, respectively. Gamers also have the option of faster RAM with RX 6600XT. It can run at 16Gbps speeds, and it has a memory bandwidth of up to 256GB/s. This compares to the RX6600’s 14Gbps and 224GB/s.
What does this all mean in real-world usage? AMD suggests expecting a variance between 10 and 15% for the cards. AMD reports that the RX6600 XT runs at 1080p with max settings and achieves 83fps Cyberpunk2077, while the RX6600 gets 70fps. Forza Horizon4pulls at 137fps with the RX6600 XT. However, when you switch to the RX6600, it drops to 120fps. The RX6600 XT can achieve 176fps in a title such as Resident Evil Village. It is 145fps slower than the RX6600.
You can also get other GPUs instead of the RX 6600 and 6600XT
The RX 6600 XT and RX 6600 XT aren’t the only available GPUs. The RX6700 XT is also available for $479, $100 more than the MSRP. The 6700 XT card is more influential across all applications. It features 40 compute units, a 2424MHz gaming frequency, and a memory bandwidth of up to 384GB/s. This means that you can still play Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at 82 frames per second with Ultra High graphics and 1440p. Overwatch runs even better than with RX 6700XT producing at 212fps using Epic graphics settings at 1440.
The RTX 3060Ti is a solid choice if you prefer to look at Nvidia cards over AMD cards. The RTX3060 Ti retails for $399 and features Nvidia’s Ampere Architecture, second-generation ray tracing, DLSS, and DLSS to extract higher frame rates from lower-end machines. The Control game was played in 1080p with the highest graphics settings (with the RTX off), and the 3060 Ti achieved over 140 frames per second.
It’s still tough to buy a GPU at MSRP.
There’s also the cost. The RX6600 XT is $379, while the RX6600 XT is $329. The RX 6600XT retail price is higher than the RX 6600XT. This makes it more sensible for gamers to pay a bit more. It boasts a faster chip and a better overall gaming experience. The RX 6700 XT or RTX 3060i are solid options if you have more money.
This assumes that you can find the GPUs at these retail prices. Most graphics cards are challenging to find due to the ongoing shortage of chips. If you do find one, it will be selling for hundreds more than it should. This trend will improve over the next year, but for now, you might have to wait to purchase a GPU once you’ve decided which one you want.
