Why Apple Got Rid Of The 2021 MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar

Why Apple Got Rid Of The 2021 MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar

Apple 2021 MacBookPro brings many new features to the table. However, it lacks a critical component missing for the past few generations: a Touch Bar. Apple made some controversial design changes with the 2016 MacBook Pro redesign. The laptop was made thinner, and many of its legacy ports were replaced by USB-C. It also featured the iconic Touch Bar above it.

The top section of most laptops has function keys that can be used for shortcuts. This arrangement has been very successful over the years. However, Apple wanted a new approach with the Touch Bar. The Touch Bar is an OLED strip that runs the length of the keyboard and changes depending on what application it’s being used. The Safari Touch Bar displays the URL bar and website shortcuts. It is easy to access the compose, forward, archive, and delete buttons in an app such as Apple Mail. Although users can still bring up virtual function keys, the Touch Bar allows for more flexibility and interaction than laptops that do not have it.

This is what makes the 2021 MacBook Pro unique. It’s an upgrade to the MacBook Pros before it. It features a sleeker design, a larger display, more ports, and faster performance. However, the Touch Bar is missing from this model. The Touch Bar has been present on all MacBook Pros since 2016, but it is absent from the 2021 MacBook Pro. It instead has a row of physical function keys, just like any other laptop.

Why the 2021 MacBook Pro doesn’t have the Touch Bar

Apple addressed the Touch Bar’s elimination while unveiling its 2021 MacBook Pro, even though it didn’t spend much time reflecting. Apple stated early in the presentation that users value the full-height function row of the standalone Magic Keyboard. We’ve added it to the MacBook Pro.” Apple said these keys will replace the Touch Bar and provide “the familiar tactile feel of mechanical keys pro users love.” While this is undoubtedly an excellent move for most users, Apple’s approach is quite interesting.

Apple unveiled the Touch Bar as the next big thing in 2016, and it was a huge success. The Touch Bar was a big draw to the MacBook Pro. It was given plenty of stage time and prominently featured in marketing materials. Although the Touch Bar was still used on every MacBook Pro, Apple lost interest in it. The Touch Bar was not mentioned in the M1 MacBook Pro’s 2020 announcement. It’s also been a frequent source of complaints about MacBook Pro users ever since its inception. Although not as disruptive as the butterfly keyboards, the Touch Bar was often mocked for solving an issue that didn’t exist.

The Future of the Touch Bar

The Touch Bar is currently only available on the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The Touch Bar on the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 16 inch MacBook Pro or 13-inch MacBook Air is not included. The Touch Bar is technically still available in Apple’s Mac portfolio but in minimal ways.

It’s unclear what the future holds for the Touch Bar as we move through 2022. This year, the new MacBook Air will be launched with a revised chassis, slimmer edges, and tons of new colors. A Touch Bar is not expected. Apple is also expected to release a new 13-inch MacBook Pro in 2022. The new 13-inch MacBook Pro will be free from the Touch Bar, just like the 14-inch and 16-inch models. However, others believe it will have the same design as the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar intact — but with a new M2 Chip.

It’s hard to predict what Apple will do in the future. The original design of the 13-inch MacBook Pro would be retained, but an M2 chip would make the laptop stand out from the more costly 14 and 16-inch models. This would give consumers more options and allow Apple to continue selling its more expensive 14- and 16 inch MacBook Pros as its flagship models. It would be strange, however, to ship a new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar after months of talking about how much regular function keys are essential. Apple’sTouch Bar may be in danger but it is not entirely extinct.
