Virgin Orbit launched seven satellite rockets from California’s Mojave Aviation Port on Saturday. This was the first overnight mission for the company. Virgin Orbit launched satellites to low Earth orbit with its Boeing 747 carrier aircraft, Cosmic Girl. It had a LauncherOne rocket attached.
Straight Up, named after Paula Abdul’s song, saw seven NASA research satellites launched. The rocket was launched from 10 km above the ground, just like previous missions. It also climbed Cosmic Girl. Virgin Orbit delayed the flight of the carrier plane that was initially scheduled for Thursday after experts discovered LauncherOne’s propellant temperature was slightly out of range.
Virgin Orbit has successfully launched five launches so far, with four of them being successful. The first was unsuccessful. Virgin Orbit, which is owned by Richard Branson the British billionaire, should not be confused for Virgin Galactic, Virgin Galactic’s commercial spaceflight division.
