Elon Musk announced that the next Tesla software upgrade will include an automatic interior heat protection function.
The interior heat protection function turns on the climate control system in Tesla vehicles automatically. If the vehicle is left in direct sunlight for more than a few hours, this function can lower the interior temperature.
The Model 3 owner’s manual states that cab heat protection can be activated for 12 hours after passengers have left, or until the battery is at 20%. This function can be activated without air conditioning. In this case, the fan will only operate, and air conditioning will only be used if the interior temperature is above 40 degrees Celsius.
Tesla warns drivers that even with cab heat protection activated, their cars can get very hot. Even if the cab overheating protection has been activated, drivers should never leave pets or children unattended in their cars.
Elon Musk observed that cabin overheating protection should be an important consideration in extreme heat conditions.
In record heat conditions, Tesla’s interior overheating protection system should be of great importance. In a future software update, you will be able to adjust the activation temp.
