The Ministry of Transport refused: the rules for transporting animals on planes will not change

Already, we wrote that the government had asked the Ministry of Transport for changes to the rules regarding animal transport on planes. Citizens approached the authorities to request that the rules be changed. It was an increase of 10 kg in the maximum weight of an animal allowed to be transported in the cabin. It is now known that although the Ministry of Transport has no plans to make any additional recommendations in this area, the ministry does not believe that it is necessary. According to the department’s press service, animal transportation on planes is controlled by the Federal Aviation Rules. The creation of uniform requirements for airlines regarding the weight of animals carried in airplane cabins will only result in unjustified and excessive regulation.

The airline has now agreed to transport pets, birds, and service dogs aboard the aircraft. The weight and size of the pet as well as the number seats are taken into account to calculate the payment. A guide dog traveling with a blind person is exempted from payment. Airline pilots can make their own rules regarding the transport of animals onboard, taking into consideration the particulars of each aircraft and the comfort of passengers. Pets weighing less than 8kg are not allowed in an aircraft cabin. Larger pets can be transported in the baggage compartment. These regulations also consider the fact that the carrier must be under the seat in front of it when transporting in the passenger cabin. The animal must be able, while in the carrier: to lie down in a natural position; to stand up to its full height; and to turn 360°.
