Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 in the First 5nm Chipset for Windows PCs

You might have thought Qualcomm was only producing chips for smartphones. We were the same as you up until now. We didn’t think that the company would create a separate line for chips for laptops. The company just announced the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3. This was our surprise.

Qualcomm presented some chipsets at the Snapdragon Technology Summit in Kona (Hawaii) recently. The Snapdragon 8cx Generation 3 and the Snapdragon7c+ Gen 3 are two of them. Both have a higher performance rating than their predecessors.

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is the first 5nm chipet for Windows. It delivers up to 85% higher CPU performance and a 60% faster GPU performance than the Snapdragon 8cx Generation 2.

This chipset contains eight cores. Four cores are from Kryo and four from Cortex A78. The chip is also capable of generating more than 29 TOPS and has three times the AI performance as its predecessor.

There are also some disadvantages. The absence of a 5G modem integrated is one of the biggest. This could be due to the higher cost of the technology, which is not very practical for laptop users.

Miguel Nunes, vice-president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies Inc, said during a session:

Snapdragon 8cx Generation 3 is built on the technology that transformed the PC industry. It delivers premium experiences with outstanding performance per watt and immersive camera and sound with enhanced AI-acceleration. 5G connectivity is lightning fast and chips-to-cloud security in small, fanless systems.
