The new 56-core Intel CPU couldn’t beat the 40-core old model in single-threaded mode. Xeon Platinum 8480+ tested in Geekbench

Geekbench lit up the 56-core Intel processor from the new generation. This is the Xeon Platinum 8480+ processor of the Sapphire Rapids generation. Intel delayed the launch of this CPU several times.

This CPU is among the oldest in the AMD Epyc Gena line and will be competing with it. The AMD Epyc Genoa CPUs will feature 96 cores.

The benchmark score of the new processor was 752 and 37.794 in single-threaded, and multi-threaded modes.

The new CPU was significantly faster in multi-threaded modes due to having a greater number of cores. However, it lost out to Ice Lake-SP’s flagship in single-threaded mode. It is important to note that the non-serial sample tested was apparently at very different frequencies. Software says that 2 GHz is the base frequency. The Xeon Platinum8380 uses 2.3 GHz. The single-threaded mode results are not encouraging.
