Honduras opens “Bitcoin Valley” in the tourist city of Santa Lucia

Honduras launched its Bitcoin Valley crypto hub in Santa Lucia, a tourist city.

Already 60 cafes and shops accept bitcoins and other cryptocurrency payments. The Blockchain Honduras organisation, Coincaex cryptocurrency exchange from Guatemala and Santa Lucia municipality worked together to implement the project.

“The Santa Lucia community is going to learn how to use cryptocurrencies and manage digital assets. This will make the region more attractive for cryptotourism.” Ruben Carbajal Valazquez is a professor at the Goduras University of Technology.

Local authorities have promised that Santa Lucia retailers will be able instantly to convert bitcoins into local currency, and then receive it in their accounts. This will lower the risk of cryptocurrency volatility.

The announcement was made at the same time that Hong Kong University announced construction of a MetaHKUST campus on the other side.

On September 1, the first trial classes of the new learning method will be held. This initiative aims to organize joint education for students from different cities within a single virtual space. The South China Morning Post (SCMP), website reported this.

The university has equipped its Guangzhou campus with cameras, visualization tools, and sensors to create virtual twins of the offline campuses. Both institutions will be able create content using avatars, NFTs or virtual art objects once the ecosystem has been established.
