According to IDC, the tablet market was virtually unchanged in terms of annual growth in the second quarter. Sales increased from 40.4 million to 40.5 millions units.
Nevertheless, the top five companies saw changes over the past year. In annual terms, however, each company showed different results.
Apple is still the leader, with 12.6 million tablets sold and 31% of market share. Although sales declined by 2.9%, the company saw a decrease in revenue for the year. However, Samsung’s sales fell by 10.6% to 7.3million devices. Now, the company is 18.1% of this market. The company is now within three of the top three Amazon sellers. A year ago, the company was fourth in Amazon’s top three. Sales growth of nearly 27% has helped them climb to third.
These top five included Huawei and Lenovo. While Lenovo saw a 25% drop in sales, Huawei was still within last year’s results.
IDC also assessed the Chromebook market. As you can see, the sales of Chromebooks have increased by more than half, from 12.3 million to 6,000,000 devices. This is due to a decline in demand for education and ongoing liquidation of large stocks.
