Canalys analysts summarized the results for the second quarter 2022 in the smartphone industry. This period saw a 9% decline in the market.
Global shipments dropped to 287 million devices. This is the lowest number in the past two years. Samsung is still the market leader, with 21% of global shipments and 61.8 millions smartphones sold. The company also saw a 6% increase in sales, which is quite impressive considering the market’s decline.
Apple increased its shipments by 8% to 49.5 million smartphones. This makes Apple 17% of the global market. Xiaomi finishes in the top three, with 39.6 millions smartphones sold and 14% of the market. Here, Xiaomi sales fell 25%
They fell even more for the other top five companies: Oppo, Vivo and Vivo. Deliveries fell by 22%, 19% and 25.3 million units, respectively. Other companies had 29% of the market, while total sales for all other companies fell 10%.
In general, Apple and Samsung won over buyers in a declining market.
