Microsoft released an Android update to the Surface Duo2 dual-screen smartphone. According to the release notes the new version includes security-related improvements. There are no new features. Google launched the Android security update in March, as usual, and Microsoft is now working with Surface Duo 2 owners to release the update.
The online magazine Neowin reported this. Since the new update includes security-related changes it is highly recommended that all Duo 2 owners download the update. Microsoft claims that the update does not contain any other changes than the May security patches for Android. This is surprising considering that the group had previously announced it would continue to update the Duo 2 with new features. On the other hand, the update for the first-generation device saw improvements to the camera.
According to the changelog the Surface Duo was updated to version 202.210.15. The table of contents is quite short. The table of contents is very brief. It simply states, “Resolves scenarios discussed in the Android Security Bulletin-May 2022.” Microsoft has confirmed that it wants to use Android development once again in recent months.
However, very little has been observed so far. Microsoft, for example, is working on Android 12 implementations for Surface Duo series devices, and more specifically the UI variant Android 12L. Google’s Android 12L user interface has been launched. It is optimized for large and split screen sizes. Next week, the Build developer conference will be the next major Microsoft event.
