Xiaomi aims to be one of the top automotive manufacturers in China. Therefore, the company is currently developing an autopilot system for cars. Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, stated that the company is currently working on the Xiaomi Pilot Technology system.
The company has hired more than 500 people to create a research and development department. The number of specialists will rise to 600 by the end of this year.
Xiaomi also boasted of the system’s capabilities and demonstrated a prototype in action via a short video. Separately, it should be noted that the autopilot technology for Xiaomi’s autonomous electric car will be developed entirely without third parties and in record-breaking time.
Xiaomi previously acquired assets of Shandong Technology which is involved in developing uncrewed vehicle auto-driving systems. The authorized capital for the new Xiaomi Auto company was 1.5 billion dollars. This means the total investment in the next ten years will be 10 billion dollars.
The new Xiaomi Pilot Technology system will offer self-parking, battery charging, and many other innovative services in addition to automated driving. The company currently has 140 vehicles being used to test various aspects of its system.
In 2024, the final solution will be available.
